What is RSS?

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is an easy way for you to keep updated automatically without having to go to a website to look for their latest updated content. If you subscribe to the feeds they will let you know as soon as they have some new content of interest to you.

How do I use RSS?

Just as you need a radio receiver to get radio programs, so you need an RSS newsreader to be able to get RSS Feeds. RSS newsreaders allow you to collect and display feeds. Just choose which RSS feeds you want, click on the RSS of XML icon to subscribe to the feed, and it will automatically retrieve updates. You get the new content as soon as it is published.

How do I get a news reader?

There are many different newsreaders available. Most newsreaders are applications that you download and install on your computer. Others are web-based services you sign-up for that work inside your browser.

Download the Free PRESSfeed newsreader

Our reader comes with some good feeds already installed.

You can find a list of other RSS newsreaders here http://allrss.com/rssreaders.html

How do I subscribe to RSS feeds?

Once you have downloaded and installed your PRESSfeed reader, go to RSS feed at the top of this page. Right-click on the RSS button. Select "Copy Shortcut" or "Copy Link Location" to copy the address or location (URL) of this feed. Go to your PRESSfeed reader. The first icon on the top left of the tool bar is for adding a feed. Click the icon. It brings up a window with a field to add the URL of the feed you want to subscribe to. Place your cursor in this field. Right click your mouse and click Paste. The URL of the feed will appear in the field. Click Next. It offers you a choice of folders in which you can place this feed. Pick the one that makes the most sense to you for this feed. Highlight the folder. Click Finish.

And you're ready to start receiving your RSS news feeds.

You can repeat this with feeds on websites you want to subscribe to.

"Competency-based..."
"I like the idea of a competency-based program. In some areas I already had expertise and skills so I could take an independent study class and build the portfolio and take the exams. In other areas I needed more instruction."
—Gretchen Burr, WGU graduate, high school teacher
"I am an expert.."
"Western Governors has raised the bar for online courses. Instead of graduating from their courses and saying, "I have passed all of the requirements," they want their students to say, "I graduated from WGU and I am an expert in the field of..."
—Jeffrey Cravy, WGU graduate student
"Competency-based..."
"Google has pioneered the idea of access to information. The reason Google thinks WGU is such a good idea is because WGU has pioneered the concept of competency-based education whenever you want it."
—Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google Inc.
